Meetings and Reports

July 20, 2023 – Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Robert Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman stated that notice had been given to the Herald Newspapers, the official paper and is posted on the bulletin board of the Middle Township Municipal Hall as required by P.L. 1975, c231, the Sunshine Law.

Roll call was taken with commissioners Robert Zimmerman, Conrad Johnson, J. Gregory Neill, and Jean Zimmerman present. Also present were Rio Grande Fire Chief Howard Graham, Fire Official Dan DeSimone. Jenifer Sill, Richard Braslow, Attorney and David McNally, CPA of Holt McNally and Associates, were absent.

OLD BUSINESS

Robert Zimmerman said the Engine Committee had a meeting last night and is leaning towards a 75’. Bob Sweeten will be getting prices from Pierce. A portion of the cost will probably be financed. Looking at a 4 year delivery date.

NEW BUSINESS

Robert Zimmerman was informed that Kirby Stiltner Jr. has resigned from the LOSAP program and has talked with Bob Sweeten. Kirby has filled out his application and worked it out with Lincoln Financial.

CHIEF’S REPORT

222 fire calls and as of this date they have had 44; on July 10th packs were delivered but order not complete, waiting for 3 large masks and one – 1 hour cylinder; training set up for August 9th at 5:30pm; ladder testing July 24th; jaws coming down for service on tanker on July 25th; ladder had issue with steering box that was loose, Barry tightened it and is working on the maintenance for the year; Robert Zimmerman asked about the year old pack batteries and was told they will come down and figure it out. Robert said that we will pay for the packs when the order is complete. Chief also mentioned that he applied to NJ American Water for a grant.

FIRE BUREAU

Dan DeSimone had a resignation letter from Joe Alesandrini, Fire Inspector from Marmora, who resigned May 12, 2023. Dan has been filling in for him temporarily doing rentals while he looks for a replacement. Ron Panebianco, a Rio Grande fireman, is interested and currently does the Transfer of Sales. He has taken the Fire Inspector class and is waiting for his license and certificate from the state. Ron was told to get his paperwork started and he could do the non life hazard inspections. Dan DeSimone mentioned a letter from the state was received on the ordinance changes saying they are still held up on a state issue and still under review.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Robert Zimmerman read the bills, motion by resolution to pay the bills by Conrad Johnson, second Greg Neill, of $17,948.68.
