Meetings and Reports

May 18, 2023 – Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Robert Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman stated that notice had been given to the Herald Newspapers, the official paper and is posted on the bulletin board of the Middle Township Municipal Hall as required by P.L. 1975, c231, the Sunshine Law.

ROLL CALL

Roll call was taken with commissioners Robert Zimmerman, Jenifer Sill, J. Gregory Neill, and Jean Zimmerman present. Also present were Rio Grande Fire Chief Howard Graham, Assistant Fire Chief Jim Belles, Rio Grande Fire Company Vice President Kirby Stiltner, Bob Sweeten and Aaron Sill. Conrad Johnson, Richard Braslow, Attorney and David McNally, CPA of Holt McNally and Associates, were absent.

COMMUNICATION

None at this time.

OLD BUSINESS

Bob Sweeten spoke with both the fire official and chief’s office about having cyber security classes on a Wednesday night prior to a meeting or drill. Anyone within the fire company who uses the company’s computers is required to take this class. He thought starting at 5:45 pm and finishing by 7 pm would be convenient for everyone. Anyone can sit in for the class.

Jenifer Sill reported that Comcast installation is complete.

NEW BUSINESS

Greg Neill thanked everyone for the CASA payroll signup.

Robert Zimmerman spoke to Wildwood Water and had the fire hydrants re-painted.

Bob Sweeten said LOSAP is done for the year.

Kirby Stiltner, Vice President of Rio Grande Fire Company, asked if the commissioners would be able to help in the renovation of both bathrooms. Robert Zimmerman stated that the bathrooms are the responsibility of the fire company and respectfully denied the request.

Bob Sweeten wants to check the tags on back of the extinguishers and needs to get ARC slash stickers for all panels. He will also be doing a check of driver’s licenses with copies for the township. If the form is not signed then that person is ineligible to drive a fire truck.

Bob Sweeten said there is an unpaid bill from last year from Ed at Future Tech. Jenifer Sill said she would look into it.

CHIEF’S REPORT

129 fire calls; spoke with Mike Sweeney from the Fire Store and it looks like they will be shipping out the air packs around the second week of June; ordered 700 mobile for tanker 72, ordered a pallet of oil dry last month to get ready for the season; 16 members took CPR class on April 26th; sprinkler demo, May 24th at 7 pm, all Middle Township companies were invited; air compressor yearly service was completed May 11th, changed filters and adjusted pressure switch from 5000 psi to 6200 psi and some other minor repairs; annual hose testing will be completed June 1st at 8 am; still waiting on dates for aerial and pump testings

FIRE BUREAU

Robert Zimmerman asked Greg Neill about the progress or finalized anything on the food trucks permit. Greg isn’t sure who is paid and not paid. He said he isn’t sure how Dan DeSimone is handling them and will have to find out.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Robert Zimmerman read the bills, motion by resolution to pay the bills by Greg Neill, second Jenifer Sill, of $10,563.80. Motion carried. Jenifer Sill stated that two (2) accounts, a CD and a Money Market, have been closed out of OceanFirst and have been combined into a new CD for a total of $280,635.74 and opened at Sturdy Savings. She also stated that the Verizon auto pay is for the Verizon bill prior to switching to Comcast and there should be one more payment coming.
